The Department of Justice provided some support to California homeowners who allege that State Farm Fire & Casualty Co. and other firms colluded to cancel their private insurance policies in the years before 2025 wildfires destroyed their homes, disputing the insurers’ arguments they’re protected from antitrust liability.
The case, filed in California Superior Court last year, was brought under the state’s Cartwright Act and Unfair Competition Law by 60 plaintiffs who lost their homes to wildfires in the Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and Altadena communities.
