NCAA Head Backs Limited Antitrust Shield as NIL Bill Advances

NCAA President Charlie Baker offered support for a bill that would empower the organization to enforce a multibillion-dollar legal settlement, adding that he is only seeking a limited shield from antitrust liability.

Speaking to reporters at a National Press Club event in Washington on Thursday, Baker said a potential antitrust exemption in the proposed “SCORE Act” (H.R. 4312), which was approved by two House committees Wednesday, would be “defined, conditional and temporary.”

Baker was in the nation’s capital this week to lobby in support of a legislative fix, saying he was “heartened” to see the SCORE Act advance.
