New California Senate Leader Limón Spotlights Data Protection

The new leader of the California Senate wants to focus more on privacy issues next year, creating a new committee to examine how personal data is handled in areas ranging from insurance to health care.

Senate President Pro Tempore Monique Limón (D) created a Privacy, Digital Technologies, and Consumer Protection committee in one of her first major organizational moves as head of the chamber.

The Senate leader, who took on her role in November, told Bloomberg Government in a Monday interview that the panel will work on a variety of issues dealing with privacy, beyond those focused on technology.
