23andMe Inc. agreed to a $30 million settlement and committed to a three-year security monitoring program to resolve claims it failed to safeguard the privacy of more than six million customers affected by a 2023 data breach.
The lawsuit accused the personal genomics and biotechnology company of inadequate security protections of personal data and a failure to inform customers that their information was specifically targeted and sold by hackers on the darkweb—the internet’s seedy underbelly.
