Bessent Says It’s Up to Trump on Suing Warsh Over Interest Rates

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that it would be “up to the president” if he wants to sue his nominee to chair the Federal Reserve for not lowering interest rates to his liking.

During a hearing Thursday, Democrat senator Elizabeth Warren asked Bessent to commit that Kevin Warsh, whom Trump nominated Friday, would not be sued or investigated if he failed to follow the president’s lead on setting interest rates.

“That is up to the president,” Bessent told Warren during the Senate Banking Committee hearing.
