California Democrats Move to Court Trump-Friendly Crypto Sector

California Democrats are reevaluating their initially cautious stance on cryptocurrency, concerned about Republican inroads into the multitrillion-dollar sector and its investors under the Trump administration.

Some state Democrats argue their party has lost ground to the GOP on the issue given President Donald Trump’s courtship of the sector, with his family entering the digital assets business and his administration appointing a crypto czar. Trump worked with Congress to enact the GENIUS Act, the first major federal cryptocurrency law (BGOV Bill Analysis; Public Law 119-27), which some consumer advocates criticized for being too industry-friendly.
