Former Turkish Central Bank Deputy Governor Arrested, Halk Says

A former deputy governor of Turkey’s central bank, Emrah Sener, was among eight people arrested in an investigation into alleged financial irregularities, local broadcaster Halk TV reported.

The probe concerns public tenders managed by Interbank Card Center, the country’s main payment-processing network also known by its Turkish acronym BKM, in which the central bank holds a majority stake. An internal audit in October 2024 flagged potential misconduct, prompting the central bank to file a criminal complaint in December, according to a statement on Friday.
