Greek Premier, UniCredit Chief Orcel Praise Alpha Bank Deal (1)

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and UniCredit Chief Executive Officer Andrea Orcel lauded a recent move by the Italian lender to increase its position in one of Greece’s largest banks.

UniCredit doubled its stake in Alpha Bank in late May bringing its total holding to around 20%. The move was broadly welcomed by the government in Athens and the Bank of Greece, in contrastto Orcel’s reception in other countries like Germany, where his efforts to take over Commerzbank AG have faced pushback.
