President Donald Trump is proposing to eliminate several housing programs in his budget proposal as part of his push to shift the burden of housing assistance onto state governments and end government diversity programs.
The Trump administration is requesting a 43.6% cut in funding to the Department of Housing and Urban Development in its preliminary fiscal 2026 budget proposal. Under Trump’s budget, the department would receive $43.5 billion in funding for the 2026 fiscal year, down from its current funding level of $77 billion.
