Data center operators have made plans to turbocharge their on-site natural gas power generation 57-fold as they wait for grid connections, according to new research from BloombergNEF.
While just 2 gigawatts of on-site gas power generation is currently operating at data centers globally, about 114 gigawatts are planned for the coming years across 115 projects, a BNEF analysis of permits, news reports and company announcements finds.
