June 10, 2024, 3:59 AM UTC

International flights to Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport couldn’t land because heavy lightning during a thunderstorm damaged the runway lighting system, Minister of Aviation Juan Edghill said in a statement.

  • “All incoming flights have been diverted to ensure the safety of all,” he said.
  • Both the primary and alternate circuits were impacted by the storm
  • Technicians from the state-owned power co. were assisting with the restoration of the lighting system
