Allred Drops Senate Run to Challenge House Successor in TX-33

Democrat Colin Allred is dropping his repeat Senate bid to run to represent Texas’ newly drawn 33rd District in the US House, setting up a former-member-on-member race against freshman Democratic Rep. Julie Johnson.

Allred served in the House from 2019 until he unsuccessfully challenged Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) last November. He’d previously campaigned for the 2026 Senate election in a primary including state Rep. James Talarico, with progressive firebrand Rep. Jasmine Crockett also weighing a bid. Sen.
