A top US army official said the service is “very close” to fielding the US military’s first hypersonic weapon, a forecast at odds with recent Pentagon assessments that more testing is needed before it should be deployed.
“We are so close to that first battery being fully equipped with all of its capabilities that I don’t want to spoil the surprise when we actually get there, but we’re within a few weeks,” Lt. Gen. Frank Lozano, the Army’s top missile programs official, told an industry conference.
