California Rep. Kiley Aims to Take Reelection Road Less Traveled

Rep. Kevin Kiley of California is waging a reelection campaign with an unusual blueprint:

After Kiley’s suburban Sacramento 3rd District was dismantled as part of the multi-state redistricting war, the longtime Republican left the party and became an independent. He heads into the crowded June 2 primary for a redrawn district, the 6th, sounding like someone trying to rise above Washington’s polarized gridlock.

“It is no secret I’ve been frustrated, at times disgusted, by the hyper-partisanship in Congress,” Kiley said last month.
