California Unions Lobby for Passage of Workplace AI Restrictions

California labor unions are making a renewed push at the state legislature for tighter rules on the use of artificial intelligence in the workplace.

The campaign, which sets up a high-stakes clash with the business community, comes amid mounting concerns about AI’s potential to both eliminate jobs and give employers an upper hand in hiring, firing and measuring the performance of workers.

Democrats, who hold supermajorities in the state capitol, have proposed several bills that would require more public disclosures from companies using AI and set boundaries for the use of such tools.
