House GOP Fiscal Hawks Balk at Mega-Bill Spending Cuts

Deficit hawks aren’t convinced Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has fulfilled his promise that their sweeping GOP-only tax and spending package would have drastic spending cuts.

According to preliminary estimates, the bill has at least $1.5 trillion in offsets. But in spirit? Fiscal hawks don’t think so. They lack faith that some of the future spending cuts will take effect over the course of the next 10 years as written.
