DOT’s Duffy Pitches Fee to Help Pay for Air Traffic Upgrades

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy floated the idea of charging a fee to help the US Federal Aviation Administration modernize its air traffic control system on a more regular basis.

“I would welcome an opportunity to think through, how could we have a small fee that went into allowing us to continually upgrade our systems,” Duffy said Wednesday at an event hosted by American Airlines Group Inc.

He noted that sometimes Congress can be “dysfunctional” and that it would be good to have “a pathway to do these things and fund them in a different way.”
