Drone Defense Measure Falters on GOP Lawmaker’s Objections (1)

A last-ditch effort to give counter-drone powers to state and local law enforcement fell short on Capitol Hill as a Republican lawmaker objected to the measure, despite a frenzy over recent drone sightings in the Northeast.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Chairman Gary Peters (D-Mich.) on Wednesday sought speedy approval of a modified version of a bipartisan bill (S. 1631) Peters has pushed for two years that would renew the federal government’s authorities to take down dangerous drones and grant those powers to select state and local agencies.
