Energy programs would face cuts and nuclear safety funds would increase under a federal spending measure senators proposed Monday, drawing pushback from Democrats.

The Senate Appropriations Committee published its fiscal 2026 Energy and Water funding bill as senators aim to make progress on spending measures after a 43-day government shutdown, the longest ever.
