Lawmakers are seeking to improve federal software-licensing practices under bipartisan legislation reintroduced this week, aimed at reducing unnecessary spending and promoting transparency on technology purchases across the government.
The US government is the world’s largest buyer of technology and software, spending more than $100 billion annually on IT products and services. Republicans and Democrats have long voiced concerns about duplicative and inefficient spending and attempted to increase oversight of the processes.
