House GOP Nixes Sixth Week of Votes as Shutdown Nears Record

The House will spend a sixth straight week away from Washington as the government shutdown enters its second month — and could break another record.

Lawmakers will remain in their districts next week, according to a message read at Friday’s pro forma session. House Republicans had planned to recess the week of Nov. 10, which would be the chamber’s seventh district work week in a row if they stick to their calendar.
