House Republicans won’t get a breather after wrapping up marathon markups on their tax cut package.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) still has to settle fights on key details — including the state-and-local tax deduction — before whipping compliance for a close floor vote as soon as next week.

The handful of SALT-focused Republicans from high-tax states are agitated with leaders and tax-writers, demanding a significant hike to the current deduction. Johnson told reporters Wednesday it may take until the weekend to reach a deal.
