Lawmakers Dig In as Shutdown Drags On
The long weekend did little to ease tensions between lawmakers as the government shutdown drags into day 14. If anything, both sides are more dug in than before.
The effects of the shutdown are heightening the longer it lasts — federal workers received their first partial paycheck last Friday — but lawmakers aren’t feeling much pressure. President Donald Trump announced over the weekend the Pentagon would redirect funds to pay troops, eliminating a major incentive for lawmakers to strike a deal.
