Massachusetts Democrat Makes Age Central to Senate Primary Bid

Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts announced a bid to unseat Sen. Ed Markey in the 2026 Democratic primary, a race that will spotlight one of the party’s starkest generational contrasts.

“We’re in a crisis and with everything we learned last election, I just don’t believe Senator Markey should be running for another six year term at 80 years old,” Moulton, 46, said Wednesday in announcing his candidacy against Markey, who turns 80 next July.
