The company entered agreements with energy companies Vistra, Oklo, and TerraPower to help fund nuclear projects in Ohio and Pennsylvania that aim to extend their operations and increase production. The move builds on Meta’s deal signed last year with Constellation Energy to boost nuclear power that will support AI development.

“Nuclear energy will help power our AI future, strengthen our country’s energy infrastructure, and provide clean, reliable electricity for everyone,” Joel Kaplan, chief global affairs officer at Meta, said in a statement.
The announcement could give a power boost to PJM, the regional transmission organization that services several states on the East Coast and has come under fire from Republicans and Democrats for poor oversight of the grid amid escalating electricity prices. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) criticized PJM for being “broken” and “too damn slow” during a permitting event in December.
“With more AI data centers coming online each year, we must ensure there is enough reliable power to run these facilities without placing further strain on the grid,” said Rep. Troy Balderson (R-Ohio), a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, who represents the neighboring district in Ohio.
