North Carolina GOP Releases Map Targeting Vulnerable Democrat

North Carolina Republicans unveiled a draft congressional map designed to deliver an additional House seat to their party, part of a broader GOP campaign to protect their precarious majority in Washington by revising districts before the 2026 election.

The proposed map, which the GOP-led legislature will consider in committee on Monday, favors Republicans in 11 of the 14 districts and targets two-term Democrat Don Davis, who was narrowly re-elected in 2024 in North Carolina’s only competitive district. North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein (D) isn’t permitted to veto a congressional map.
