Pentagon ‘Released’ $400 Million Ukraine Funding, Hegseth Says

Pentagon officials confirmed the release of $400 million in funds for Ukraine that already had been authorized by Congress, after the top Senate Republican overseeing defense spending criticized Pentagon leaders for withholding the money.

The financing was “allocated for European capacity building, and as of yesterday it was released,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told the House Armed Services Committee in a hearing on Wednesday when asked about the funds, without elaborating.

Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who chairs the US Senate’s defense spending panel, raised the issue in an opinion piece this week.
