Senate Prepares for Friday, Possible Weekend Work Amid Shutdown

Senators are gearing up for potential rare Friday votes with more possible through the weekend as talks continue over a path to reopen the government.

“I think we are going to be here until it’s over, so this weekend and next week,” Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) said Thursday.

Senators have been holding bipartisan negotiations this week on a deal to vote on three appropriations bills and a stopgap measure to reopen the government, but prospects have wavered.
