Summer Dustups Foreshadow Fall Funding Fights: Congress Tracker

Lawmakers are running short on time and tempers.

The House has 18 scheduled days in session before Sept. 30, when current government funding expires. The Senate has 26 days.

House appropriators are pushing for a truncated recess, currently due to start at the end of next week and last into to September, to make more time for funding bills.

But House lawmakers and staff have quietly considered whether they should start recess early to cool tensions within the Republican Party.

Appropriations Chairman Tom Cole (R-Okla.) acknowledged the tight timeline as a challenge for getting all the funding bills finished. ...
