The US Supreme Court will soon let Texas congressional candidates know which districts will be in place for the 2026 House elections in the state that sparked a mid-decade redistricting melee.
The court is weighing an appeal from the state’s Republican government to allow new, strongly GOP-favoring lines and block a federal court’s Nov. 18 ruling that invalidated that map as an unlawful racial gerrymander. Justice Samuel Alito, who handles emergency appeals from Texas, temporarily paused that ruling Nov. 21 and asked for responses to Texas’ request by Nov. 24.
