Republicans need to make a decision with their limited time on the legislative calendar before midterm elections: to do, or not to do another megabill.

The party, which must defend slim majorities in both chambers, is weighing whether to again use the time-intensive reconciliation process to pass legislation without a single Democrat. Republicans plan to tout last year’s tax-and-spending law in campaigns, but some want to go further with a second bite of the apple, particularly to tackle fraud and affordability issues that have become central to this election cycle.
