Trump Demand to Add Voter ID Bill to Housing Package Falls Flat

President Donald Trump’s call for Congress to attach his signature voter ID bill to unrelated bipartisan legislation is running up against a reality check.

Trump ordered Republicans to add the SAVE America elections bill (S. 1383; BGOV Bill Analysis) to a housing package (H.R. 6644) slated for a House vote Wednesday and to a future bill to reauthorize US spy powers. But the House is planning to push ahead with the housing bill as-is, and Senate Republicans acknowledged the voter ID bill still doesn’t have enough support to pass in their chamber.
