The White House is pushing to keep government funding at current levels ahead of next month’s deadline — while trying to shift the blame for a potential shutdown to congressional Democrats.
In a background call with reporters Friday afternoon, a White House official said its use of pocket rescissions to roll back some foreign aid programs and initiatives will please conservative hard-liners and dare Democrats to vote against a “clean” continuing resolution ahead of the Sept. 30 government funding deadline.
