Buffalo Diocese Drops Jones Day Retention Bid After Objections

The Diocese of Buffalo withdrew a request to hire Jones Day as special counsel in its bankruptcy following objections from a nonprofit and an insurance company.

The diocese said it won’t seek to hire the firm for now, though it “strongly disagrees with certain assertions of fact and unfounded conclusions” made by the Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo and US Fire Insurance Company, according to a Sept. 30 letter to Judge Carl L. Bucki of the US Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of New York.
