Homeland Security Prepares More Staff Cuts Following Court Order

The Department of Homeland Security is preparing to slash more employees after the US Supreme Court cleared the path this week for many agencies to carry out mass layoffs.

“Across DHS, we will be eliminating non-mission critical positions and bureaucratic hurdles that undermine our mission to secure the homeland,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement to Bloomberg Government on Wednesday.

The plans come in response to the Supreme Court’s Tuesday order allowing President Donald Trump to continue widescale federal downsizing after a lower court paused the effort. The litigation involves more than a dozen agencies, including DHS.
