An attorney for the LGBTQ+ rights group Lambda Legal has been indicted on a charge of making a false statement during a court inquiry into “judge shopping” in litigation over an Alabama felony ban for medical treatments for transgender minors.
Carl S. Charles pleaded not guilty to the single count that was unsealed on Monday, according to court records. Charles had said under oath that he hadn’t called any judge’s chambers on the day the lawsuit was filed in 2022, but federal prosecutors allege that he had called a judge’s chambers about it.
