The tech industry’s bid to block a California law restricting their use of algorithms on minors’ social media feeds backfired Tuesday after the Ninth Circuit lifted a hold on a key component of the statute, Isaiah Poritz reports.
NetChoice, whose members include Meta Platforms and X, failed to show that the provisions in question violate the First Amendment rights of social media platforms and their users. The law would prohibit social media platforms from providing “personalized feeds” to minors without parental consent, and restrict design features showing the number of likes on a post, among other things.
