OpenAI Must Share Lawyer Records
A New York federal judge is ordering OpenAI to turn over all in-house attorney communications about its deletion of data from a pirate library, an extraordinarily rare judicial move in a case potentially exposing the AI giant to billions of dollars in damages.
Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang ruled OpenAI waived attorney-client privilege of these documents and indicated they could demonstrate willful infringement in the authors’ and news publishers’ class action copyright suit. OpenAI says it will appeal.
