What Calif. Tax Lawyers Want for the Holidays: California Brief

Yesterday may have been Thanksgiving, but grateful isn’t exactly how California tax professionals are feeling about their regulators right now. Instead, they’re expressing annoyance that — eight years in — the state’s Office of Tax Appeals still isn’t sure of its powers.

The tribunal, which is responsible for keeping the state’s other tax agencies in check, is supposed to instill clarity and trust in California’s tax system. Practitioners say they’ve been patient as it has gotten on its feet. Now, they want it to act assertively.
