Apollo Global Management Inc. and The Vistria Group are exploring options including a sale or initial public offering for online education company Apollo Education Group, according to people familiar with the matter.

Apollo Education Group is the holding company of the University of Phoenix, and its owners are discussing an IPO that could take place as soon as the third quarter, said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss confidential information.
