General Atlantic Sees New Dealmaking Edge in Volatile Markets

General Atlantic is capitalizing on recent market turbulence to strike deals, as private equity offers alternative funding avenues for companies facing an uncertain initial public offering market.

Volatility has presented the firm with major dealmaking opportunities, Gabriel Caillaux, co-president at General Atlantic, said in a Bloomberg TV interview at the SuperReturn private capital conference in Berlin. “We have taken advantage of volatility honestly to price deals in a way I haven’t seen in almost 20 years.”

Mid-market technology companies have been particularly affected by the muted IPO market, which has hampered their access to public capital, Caillaux said.
