A Tufts University employee suing Prudential Insurance Co. of America over premium increases in her long-term care insurance policy asked a federal judge to certify her case as a class action covering hundreds of people.

The employee moved to certify two classes of people who experienced rate hikes in Prudential’s long-term care policies issued in Massachusetts to a handful of employers, including Tufts, Dunkin Brands Inc., Cognex Corp., and Saint-Gobain Corp.
