The IRS is closing all taxpayer assistance centers until further notice, according to a Twitter announcement.
The agency has been escalating its response to the covid-19 pandemic in an effort to address employees’ concerns and comply with new guidelines from the White House and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to reduce person-to-person interactions.
- Taxpayer assistance centers offer free tax help to people who are having difficulty resolving their tax issues online or over the phone. As of May 2019, there were 359 centers, according to the IRS watchdog.
