Apple Tax-Sharing Settlement Leaves Cupertino Facing Deficit

A California sales tax department settlement allowing Apple Inc.‘s hometown of Cupertino to keep $75 million in tax revenue collected from the company since 2021 but get much less going forward shows the risks and rewards of partnering with e-commerce giants to fill city coffers.

Cupertino City Council members will decide at their Tuesday meeting whether to release $75 million they set aside over the past two years while negotiating the settlement announced Oct. 5 with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, City Attorney Christopher Jensen said in an interview.
