The California Governor signed a law to provide tax exemptions, for federally recognized Native American tribes, by adding property tax exemptions for tribal lands used for conservation, cultural, or recreational purposes. The law also exempts tribal land return transactions from documentary transfer taxes. The property tax exemption applies to tax lien dates for fiscal years 2026-27 through 2031-32, and repeals on Jan. 1, 2033, while the documentary transfer tax exemption remains in effect until Jan. 1, 2031. [A.B. 1485, enacted 02/10/26]
