Clean energy tax credits appear to be next on the IRS’s list for special audit scrutiny.
That’s a headache for energy project investors and developers, a number of whom say IRS audits are their prime worry for 2025, according to a survey by energy credit transfer platform Crux Climate Inc.
Many companies started claiming the clean energy credits on 2023 taxes, after they were created in the landmark 2022 tax-and-climate law to spur renewables deployment. Their future is foggy, though, as these and other Biden-era policies are under threat of dismantlement by President Donald Trump.
