Japan plans to revise its anti-money laundering law to require cryptocurrency exchange operators to share customer information, Nikkei reports without attribution.
- Exchanges will need to provide details including customers’ names and addresses when sending cryptocurrency to another exchange
- “Travel rule” change was recommended by Financial Action Task Force; other countries including the US, Germany and Singapore have passed similar legislation
- Revision expected to take effect in May next year; revised rules will also apply to stablecoins
