Trump Aims to Shutter IRS Offices With Taxpayer Help Centers

The Trump administration is initiating the termination of a number of IRS leases as part of its efforts to downsize the federal government, according to a copy of a letter to the agency obtained by Bloomberg Tax.

The leases at issue include 128 offices that host taxpayer assistance centers and five that include call sites, according to a person familiar with the situation.

The IRS received a letter from the General Services Administration, dated Feb. 25, that it is starting an end to “all soft-term leases other than those which have been identified as public-facing.” The public-facing leases will ...
