You can pack a lot into a 100-minute speech. But President Donald Trump found little time — or interest — in talking about his work with the people directly in front of him: Congress.
It took 35 minutes and nearly 3,000 words of his national address Tuesday for Trump to touch on the primary topic stirring Republicans on Capitol Hill, extending and expanding his 2017 tax cuts. He said nothing about a potential government shutdown looming next Friday. He spoke at length about illegal immigration, but devoted a scant few sentences to the legislation meant to address the issue.
