Court Blocks Removal of Temporary Protections for Haitians (2)

A federal judge in New York has blocked the Department of Homeland Security from terminating Temporary Protected Status for several hundred thousand Haitian immigrants in the US.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced Friday that she was terminating a TPS designation for Haiti, after deciding earlier this year she would truncate protections originally set to last through February 2026. A lawsuit filed by a New York labor union and Haitian clerical group argued that she violated the Administrative Procedure Act by terminating an existing TPS designation early.
